Specify the section
HP designations commonly combine section depth and nominal web thickness. Confirm the drawing, dimensional standard, length, mass per metre and orientation. The uploaded product introduction gives HP220×10 and HP340×12 as designation examples, not guaranteed stock.
Choose material and condition
Hull grade, delivery route and approved mill scope must cover sections. Thickness scope and sampling rules can differ from plate. General structural A36, Q235B or SS400 sections should not be treated as certified hull sections without project approval.
Fabrication and acceptance
Check straightness, twist, surface condition and section dimensions against the selected standard. Confirm the qualified welding procedure, surface preparation and traceable length identification. Review the section-specific certificate rather than accepting a certificate for unrelated flat plate.
Information to record
- Exact product standard and edition; approved drawing or specification revision.
- Grade, dimensions, final condition and heat-to-piece traceability.
- Acceptance test, inspection document and responsible approving party.
Frequently asked questions
Does an HP size define the steel grade?
