GUIDE / MATERIAL REFERENCE

Transport, storage and handling of certified steel plates

Protect both the physical plate and its identity. Damage, mixed heat markings or lost cutting records can delay acceptance even when the chemistry is compliant.

Receiving and stacking

Check the plate list and visible condition before unloading. Use a planned lifting method, adequate supports and suitable segregation by heat and grade. Prevent standing water and contamination; protect coating and edge condition where relevant.

Traceability in stock

Keep legible identification and a stock location record. Record any remarking and subdivision before the original marks are removed. Separate stainless and nickel-alloy products from carbon-steel contamination sources where required by their service.

Dispatch controls

Reconcile packing, loading and certificates. Specify restraint, lifting points and protection for cut or formed pieces. Handling instructions must be prepared for the actual dimensions, mass and equipment; a theoretical plate weight is only one input.

Information to record

  • Exact product standard and edition; approved drawing or specification revision.
  • Grade, dimensions, final condition and heat-to-piece traceability.
  • Acceptance test, inspection document and responsible approving party.

Frequently asked questions

Can unmarked remnants be sold as class-certified plate?

Only when an acceptable traceability and marking-transfer record establishes their origin and compliance.
